Old World Lettering
Balancing Modern Layouts with Vintage Type

Stop growing up so fast! You want to shout it at your teen so loudly that it cracks Father Time’s face. Too bad he won’t hear you over the symphony of sound that is on the television, video game or MP3 player. Today’s high tech world chips away at teen’s innocence at break-neck speed; but, while you can’t stop your teen’s light-speed journey into adulthood - you can freeze frame the moments. Use your scrapbooks now to celebrate your teen’s growing individuality and, by all means, capture those fewer and fewer moments of remaining innocence. Now comes the challenge of achieving a balance between a fast paced teen and old fashioned values in your layouts.

Old world lettering embodies the core of an old fashioned value and can help you achieve this balance. Once upon a time, before typewriters and computers, lettering was laboriously created with quill pens and ink. Documents from the Renaissance and Medieval times were composed of artfully elegant lettering scribed with meticulous detail. Reproduce these timeless looks by incorporating the historical appeal of old world lettering into your scrapbook pages. Pair traditional family themes, like home and holidays, with charming Renaissance-style lettering.

We can thank goodness there is no need for a quill pen or ink well and simply choose from a variety of available fonts and digital products to reproduce that old world charm. CottageArts digital elements offer a wide variety of this lettering style to add to your pages. I have chosen to use the new Sweet Nothings Mega Page Pak to enhance the photos of my teen sweetly reading to his cousins.
