Painted with Light 2 – Molokai

camera specs: canon digital rebel, tamron 28-75/2.8 at  40 mm, iso 100, f/32, 1/8 second (texture from Naturals 3 Papers)

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Just popping in to share a bit more about abstract imagery as I’ve gotten some questions about my earlier post. One reader asked how this technique works with shots of people. I think in-motion shots like sports or dance like the hula shot above capitalize on the ethereal quality. The movement is captured and makes the emotion of the dance come alive.  It’s probably best not to try to get facial features in the shot as they’ll be quite distorted.

Below are additional faves taken in Molokai at a photography seminar I assisted in a few years ago. Abstracts make great backgrounds for collages or framed on their own, like my gerbera above. Ikea has some awesome 20×20 matted frames that hold 12×12 prints. 🙂

fyi…my camera specs and different wind/rain conditions are listed after each shot, so you can see how they were captured. I’ve since upgraded to the Canon 7d, however, the EOS Rebel served me well for 50,000 shots back in 2004-2007.
