Getting Your Rocks in a Row...

One of the biggest challenges of being a scrapper is organizing photos and supplies. You should see all of the products available just to manage our stashes! Even if you have gone entirely digital and have a good system for organizing photos, chances are you also have a few boxes of old photos waiting to be organized. It’s these boxes that are always on your mind, but get put off until you MIGHT have a moment. This short story helped me realize that those old photos are a top priority. After all, one of the reasons we scrapbook is to preserve memories of generations past and ensuring our children have all the details about those old photos only makes sense!

Once at a workshop, a time management expert stood in front of the group and immediately said “Time for a quiz.”

He pulled out a wide-mouthed jar and filled it one-by-one with large rocks. When the jar was filled to the top, he asked “Is this jar full?” Everyone answered “Yes”.

“Really?” he replied and pulled out a bucket of gravel. He poured the gravel into the jar shaking it and causing the gravel to work itself into the spaces of the rocks. By this time the group was on to him, but he asked the same question again. The group replied “Probably not”.

Now he pulled out a second bucket filled with sand and repeated the process. “Now is the jar full?” The group replied “No!”.

He then grabbed a pitcher of water and begin to pour the water in until the jar was filled to the brim and asked “what is the point of this illustration? If you don’t put the big rocks in first, you will never get them in at all.”

What are the big rocks in your life? More time in the present making memories with your loved ones? Of course, so now ensure those memories and stories will be passed down to future generations by getting those old photos organized!
